Exam-oriented deductive tasting: observe the glass, build a consistent vocabulary, compare samples and explain uncertainty rather than force an exact identification.
Full-text findings
- Begins with bias reduction and the limits of identifying a bottle by sensory evidence. Recommends core-range experience, concise distillery descriptors and a production-reference database rather than chasing exotic releases.
- Separates appearance, aroma, palate, texture, finish, perceived strength and production hypotheses. Advises preserving an undiluted comparison and accounting for carryover from peat and high strength.
- Covers malting, wort clarity, fermentation length, reflux, copper contact, cuts, barrel-entry strength, oak species, cask reuse and finishing as possible clues, not independent identification tests.
- Eight demonstrations cover Auchentoshan American Oak, Old Pulteney (bottling not unambiguously stated), GlenDronach (15/18 discussion), Glenfarclas 105, Springbank 10, Talisker Distillers Edition, Port Charlotte 10 and Ardbeg Wee Beastie. Do not infer an unstated Old Pulteney age.

Researcher synthesis
Use observation-first worksheets and separate confidence-rated inferences. For blend preference trials, use counterbalanced order rather than importing the exam's fixed low-to-high order.
Related durable idea: Observe first, infer second in whiskey tasting. Existing maturity is unchanged.
Assessment
- The actual demonstration is disclosed, not a blinded validation of identification accuracy. Exam format and bottle specifications are dated statements, not current guarantees.
- Reject universal claims that bourbon casks must be American white oak or that all Talisker bottlings have one ABV. Legs, color and bead are clues at most, not proof/age meters. The GlenDronach 2021 filtration statement needs edition-specific verification.
- Do not treat flavor intensity as a monotonic function of ABV or drops of water as literally no dilution. Production mechanisms and geographic shorthand need independent checks before publication.
All 10,576 words / 59,583 extracted characters read, from first supplied text through the final supplied text. This does not verify the completeness or accuracy of the underlying video.
Completion and boundaries
Supplied-text reading, analysis, original preservation and source/evidence integration completed. No video watched; no timestamps fabricated; no scientific or historical claim is promoted merely because the speaker is an expert. Direct public quotations require checking original audio. No changes to active bottle profiles, blend recipes, trial results or public History.
September 27 reconciliation and expanded audit
The Proton-folder PDF has ten pages, all fully read; its final page visibly ends with a TurboScribe 30-minute limit during Old Pulteney. It is an incomplete transcript, not the whole video. The already preserved September 12 transcript (01.txt, 59,583 Unicode characters / 10,576 words) was recovered locally and read in full in three contiguous blocks: characters 1–18,000, 18,001–37,000 and 37,001–59,583. It continues through all eight tastings and the closing remarks. These two text versions are not byte-identical duplicates and both originals must remain preserved.
Canonical video identity recovered from the Council's official page: YouTube O3NVUiy_TpE. The page identifies Adam Edmonsond and the demonstrated lineup. It resolves Old Pulteney as 15-year-old and GlenDronach as 15-year-old Revival; this is official page metadata, not an inference from speech. Exact video publication date/duration, synchronized timestamps, audio accuracy and visual coverage remain unverified.
Web access to YouTube failed; browser access then failed because the browser security service could not verify enforced policy. No workaround was attempted after that denial. Record full text coverage separately from incomplete audiovisual coverage; Source Review Scope is Partial Source for the overall video.
Whole-transcript analysis
The introduction prioritizes defensible observation and explanation over guessing an exact bottle. A concise vocabulary, experience with core ranges, production-reference notes and revisiting comparisons are useful training proposals. Blindness reduces label/identity cues; it does not eliminate all expectation, sequence or assessor bias. Memorized identities and personal quality scores are hypotheses, not sensory ground truth.
The production overview covers malt/peat, wort clarity, fermentation, reflux, copper contact, cuts, cask-entry strength, maturation and bottling. It supplies plausible hypotheses but not controlled tests linking an observed flavor uniquely to a process. Longer fermentation, clear wort and worm tubs are conditional tendencies, not diagnostic rules. Perceived saline character does not demonstrate salt transport from the sea.
Appearance, legs, color, texture and warmth cannot uniquely measure ABV, age, oak species or cask history. Adding any water dilutes the sample, even if slightly; record dose and preserve an undiluted reference. Higher ABV does not universally increase every perceived aroma, and personal quality scores vary with context.
The demonstration is disclosed and explanatory, not a blinded validation of accuracy. The speaker's repeated allowances for overlapping profiles are valuable. Exam predictions, bottle availability, cask proportions and producer practices must retain their edition/date context.
Demonstration coverage and precise text anchors
One-based character starts in the preserved 01.txt; these are not timestamps.
- Auchentoshan section occurs before character 30,495: light/triple-distilled expectations, American-oak notes and high-toned aromas. Do not make those notes exclusive to an oak species or treat a verbal mechanism as analytical proof.
- Old Pulteney begins 30,495: amber, dried/fresh fruit, butterscotch and saline impressions. Official page specifies 15 years; original transcript itself did not clearly do so.
- GlenDronach begins 31,350: differentiated ages/strengths, dried-fruit and woody-spice observations. The 2021 non-chill-filtration assertion remains unverified for the demonstrated edition; do not generalize to every release.
- Glenfarclas begins 34,832: 60%/cask selection, dried fruit/nuts and direct-fired savory associations. The claim that exact bottling strength is achieved by vatting requires producer verification; observed savory flavor does not uniquely diagnose direct firing.
- Springbank begins 40,403: lightly peated style, stated 60/40 cask mix, rustic/meaty/mineral descriptors and range comparisons. Cask mix is bottling-specific; contemporary sensation cannot establish what whisky tasted like 200 years ago.
- Talisker begins 44,311: Distillers Edition finishing, smoke/pepper/saline impressions and prolonged finish. The official page identifies the 2011/2021 edition. All Talisker bottlings at 45.8% is false as a general rule: producer's Tidal Churn is 58.7%.
- Port Charlotte begins 50,080: peated citrus/barley/pepper profile, 50% and acknowledged overlap with Ardbeg. Lack of a descriptor does not uniquely establish refill history or cask species.
- Wee Beastie begins 54,935: 5-year minimum-age example, 47.4%, smoke/citrus/pepper, comparison with Ardbeg bottlings. Calling both Uigeadail and Corryvreckan high-50s is inaccurate: official current product pages list Uigeadail 54.2% and Corryvreckan 57.1%. A 5-year label does not establish the proportion of older whisky; the transcript's inventory-based inference is speculation.
- Closing remarks end at character 59,583, including the transcript's music marker; no actual soundtrack reviewed.
US bourbon's 27 CFR 5.143 specifies new charred oak for bourbon, without restricting it to Quercus alba. The transcript's universal species claim is unsupported. Legal allowance alone is not proof of a particular producer's actual wood use.
Proposed Academy application and remaining gap
Create a future worksheet with separate observed descriptors, proposed explanations, alternatives and confidence. Bottle/production-reference entries should carry edition and verification dates. For a learning demonstration, discuss carryover; for a comparative experiment, design balanced orders rather than treating a low-to-high exam strategy as universally unbiased. These are proposed applications, not implemented/validated interventions.
Existing Literature Note, evidence, citation and Zettel identities retained. No duplicate source or public lesson created. Full supplied-PDF and longer supplied-text analysis is complete; original video/audio/visual/timestamp verification remains open. Proton byte identity and Notion browser rendering remain unverified.
