A blender’s classification should retain the age, stock and intended-use conditions under which it was made.
The classification is an attributed working aid, not a validated universal taxonomy or ranking.
Paterson's 2008 classification is introduced as based on four- to six-year-old whiskies (PDF 208–210). Carrying a distillery label into a different age, cask or bottled expression drops those conditions. Use the classification to generate questions about a specific component, then test its contribution in the target blend.

Goodness Nose — expanded source review
The historical classifications at PDF 203 and 206 and Paterson's working-stock table at PDF 210 reinforce the need to preserve purpose and date. The 1954 SMD table places Talisker under Islay, so its groups cannot simply be treated as strict geographical categories. The later table also prints Cardhu twice. These are reasons to inspect a classification critically, not to silently repair it or use it as a timeless distillery ranking.
Proposed Academy application: compare the three schemes, identify their scope and uncertainties, then evaluate a specific component against a stated target. No current-bottle attributes or universal taxonomy follow from the historical images.
