Chapter 3 describes cuts as practical decisions along a changing distillation run. Terms such as foreshots and heads vary by tradition. Residual material and early flushing can affect what appears first, but congeners do not arrive as three neatly separated sets. Methanol cannot be assumed to reside only in the first fraction, and sensory impressions cannot certify its absence.
