The August 1944 whiskey holiday permitted beverage-alcohol production for the first time since October 8, 1942; the OPA also established special ceiling prices effective August 1 for grain neutral spirits and bulk whiskey produced during the holiday.
Verified to official OPA and Congressional Record sources. The underlying WPB authorization instrument has not yet been captured, but the fact and month of the release are directly supported.
This was a temporary production release, not the end of wartime allocation controls.
A contemporaneous OPA report and a later Senate record independently identify the August 1944 release. The OPA report supplies the first-since-October-1942 characterization and August 1 pricing date.
Suitable for timeline and narrative use with temporary-holiday wording.
