Cite the official nomination’s reproduced map sequence, PDF pp. 23–26. Quote the business-style label exactly; explain rather than silently modernize “as Chas. Nelson.”
Reproduced Sanborn maps dated 1893, 1898, 1903, and 1908 label Greenbrier Distillery under “Louisa Nelson as Chas. Nelson,” establishing a documented business or facility attribution to Louisa Nelson across that period.
Verified against the complete official 28-page National Register nomination. The 1893, 1898, 1903, and 1908 map sheets appear on PDF pp. 23–26 and were visually inspected at high resolution.
The labels establish how the insured facility or business was attributed on the maps. They do not by themselves prove Louisa’s daily managerial decisions or personal performance of technical distilling tasks. Original Sanborn sheets should be consulted if the maps are reproduced as images.
Four reproduced Sanborn sheets use the same explicit business-style label at five-year intervals. The sequence begins after Charles Nelson’s death and continues while the facility is mapped as operating.
