Use the TSLA exhibit citation for the 1909 relocation and 1937 return.
After Tennessee outlawed alcohol manufacture in 1909, Lem Motlow moved Jack Daniel distilling operations to St. Louis, Missouri, and Birmingham, Alabama. Following repeal of national Prohibition, operations remained outside Tennessee until the state's manufacture ban was repealed in 1937, when distilling resumed in Lynchburg.
Reverified on 2026-09-02 against the complete Tennessee State Library and Archives exhibit, including preserved text, captions, and all 19 full-resolution images.
Continuity here means the Jack Daniel enterprise moved operations and later resumed at Lynchburg. It does not by itself prove continuous recipe, personnel, liquid, or ownership across every interval.
This is a named-firm continuity claim supported by an official state archival exhibit. It should not be generalized to every Tennessee distillery.
Ready for drafting as a named-firm relocation-and-return claim. Visual preservation is complete; the factual sequence remains grounded in the exhibit text.
