The Revolutionary-era Stone Fence was not a bourbon cocktail

The Stone Fence associated with 1775 used rum and hard cider, whereas Jerry Thomas's 1862 version used bourbon and sweet cider; bourbon must not be back-projected into the Revolutionary-era drink.

The evidence establishes distinct documented versions. It does not prove a single continuous recipe lineage or exclude other local preparations between those dates.
