Complete written review, not blanket factual approval. Official definitions take precedence over the captured summary.

Source argument

No access presents a broad history, then describes categories and industry structure. Its compression hides important qualifications.

Evidence map

  • Lines 1–11: infobox and introduction. Ingredients given as malt/water are not an adequate definition for all American whiskey; straight is not universally a majority-grain category.
  • Lines 12–32: chronology. Early distilling, charred-barrel emergence, medicinal permit counts and activities need the cited books at exact locations. Distinguish Eighteenth Amendment ratification from effective prohibition and medicinal exceptions. The 1980s sentence is not a founding date for Maker's Mark.
  • Lines 33–58: regulatory material. Old section numbers and export/NAFTA framing need date-specific checking. Do not convert this into a present-day compliance guide.
  • Lines 36–37: sales and capacity claims mix forecast wording, geographic scope and production capacity; no numerical market claim promoted.
  • Lines 59–68: ownership/concentration list is a dated snapshot, not current verification. The claimed 99% share is not independently established here.
  • Lines 69–120: all 29 reference entries and navigation read. Bibliographic examination does not mean Cooper, Minnick, Hogeland, Okrent or Mitenbuler were newly reread.

Researcher synthesis

Supporting check against 27 CFR 5.143, Table 1: unqualified straight whiskey need not have a majority grain; additives allowances differ between bourbon, other named grain types and straight types. American single malt has its own rows, including a straight designation. These distinctions invalidate the captured blanket summary. The current section also identifies January 19, 2025 as the relevant pre-transition standards date; distinguish that from the December 2024 announcement.

Supporting check against 27 CFR 5.88: bond requires the same distiller and distillery as well as season, material/type and other conditions. The article's shortened list is incomplete. Do not infer a universal distillation ceiling for every bonded spirit from whiskey-specific requirements.

Preservation reconciliation — September 8, 2026

The original HTML snapshot is now included in the native Wikipedia-Captures-173-218.zip package on No access. Earlier preservation-pending language is superseded for that HTML only. Local original hashes and ZIP integrity were checked; native attachment presence was refetched. Remote images/assets were not bundled and a new cloud-byte comparison was not performed. Written-source reading does not establish that every cited work or illustration was reviewed. Other source-specific holds remain unchanged.
