Tertiary overview retained for orientation and source criticism. Its introductory bottling-proof range conflicts with its later correctly distinguished barrel-entry limit.

Appropriate Use
A short introductory overview of grains, fermentation, distillation and barrel maturation. It supplies leads for further research rather than primary experimental chemistry, sensory data or blending guidance.
Corrections And Limits
PDF1 gives an 80–125-proof bottling range. PDF3 correctly separates bottling at a minimum of 80 proof from barrel entry at no more than 125 proof. Preserve this internal inconsistency explicitly. Verified against 27 CFR 5.143 on October24,2026: whisky bottling minimum is 40% ABV; bourbon's 125-proof ceiling is a storage-entry condition. Do not teach 125 proof as a bourbon bottling ceiling. PDF2–3 also compress sour-mash practice, filtration, maturation, American blended whiskey and grain/flavor relationships into broad statements. These are not adequate support for home-blending predictions. The categorical Bourbon County naming account needs historical corroboration. A longer-aged or more expensive bottle is not thereby demonstrated to be preferred. The reported Kentucky economic-impact figure is described as sales; no market forecast should inherit that wording without checking its underlying report and metric. It is not used in the business plan or revenue assumptions.
Blending Lab Application
Use as an example of why reference works still require claim-level checking. Store bottling proof, distillation proof and barrel-entry proof separately. Treat broad rye/spice and wheat/softness descriptions as contextual tendencies to investigate, not guaranteed recipe outcomes. No new chemical principle or validated blending effect is established by this source.
