Source argument

Surveys fermentative metabolism, industrial meanings, history and products.

Evidence map

201 extracted lines read. Lines1–26 definitions, metabolism and ethanol;27–35 fuel history;36–53 other pathways;54–78 industrial meanings and operation;79–92 history;93–107 circular economy/products;124–188 all65reference entries;189–201 navigation.

Four equations omitted by the original text extractor were recovered from HTML definition-list blocks and read: homolactic conversion, heterolactic conversion, lactose hydrolysis and acetate/hydrogen balance. Lactose shorthand compresses glucose and galactose into the same molecular formula; it does not make them identical sugars. Figures and pathway map remain unreviewed.

Researcher synthesis

The claimed Morey1826 first production of ethanol by corn fermentation is not cleared. EIA's timeline identifies an ethanol/turpentine engine instead. The article's fuel section has a citation warning and placeholder numerals; its classification of ethanol with vegetable oils and Diesel chronology require correction from originals.

The thirteen-thousand-year introductory date is an archaeological research lead linked to Raqefet, not an exact invention date. Jiahu, Georgia and other regional dates must retain what residues and contexts actually establish. The Georgia citation is a grape-genetics article rather than an obvious direct archaeological date source. Do not turn the mythological Rugutis material into literal history.

Buchner1897/cell-free fermentation and1907 award are supported by Nobel's search result, but direct facts-page retrieval failed; no full original paper read. “Buechner” is the article spelling; retain identity as Eduard Buchner. Pasteur1876/1877 publication wording needs bibliographic reconciliation.

Biochemical red flags for specialist checking: protons called electron donors, glyoxylate called a nitrogen source, lactate “neutralized” to lactic acid, universal environmental independence and simplified lactate/fatigue claims. The paragraph about earliest life is not demonstrated here. Do not transfer mammalian physiology or probiotic health claims to whiskey.

Industrial fermentation is broader than anaerobic energy metabolism. Batch steam sterilization,70°C production and500-hour economics describe particular industrial contexts, not all whiskey fermentation. The article's ATP ranges and prevalence percentages need the organism/sample basis. Repeated Hackmann references are not independent corroboration.

Assessment

Useful retrieval leads: yeast, enzymes, sugars, acid production, batch operation and history of fermentation science. Not a whiskey recipe or health authority. No disputed claim promoted to Excerpts/Citations/Zettels.

Completion checklist

One canonical Source and collective contributor linked.
Written review and limitations recorded.
Visual, preservation, corroboration and presentation checks.

Needs Review retained. No blanket publication clearance.

Sources

Reviewed revision. EIA timeline, displayed text read, last revised2008; not a current policy source. Nobel facts, search-result support only; direct fetch403.

Preservation reconciliation — September 8, 2026

The original HTML snapshot is now included in the native Wikipedia-Captures-173-218.zip package on No access. Earlier preservation-pending language is superseded for that HTML only. Local original hashes and ZIP integrity were checked; native attachment presence was refetched. Remote images/assets were not bundled and a new cloud-byte comparison was not performed. Written-source reading does not establish that every cited work or illustration was reviewed. Other source-specific holds remain unchanged.
