Governance decision
Approved. The term has passed the evidence gate: it now retrieves verified evidence from both a general treatment of whiskey terroir and an American regional case, with linked literature notes, claims, zettels, and an operational process.
Use
Apply this tag when a source explicitly connects place with agricultural inputs, provenance, production choices, human practice, regional identity, or sensory expression.
Boundary with Regions
- Regions organizes geographic histories, producers, styles, and laws.
- Terroir captures a causal or interpretive relationship between place and whiskey inputs, process, identity, or flavor.
Exclusions
Do not apply this tag solely because a state, city, distillery address, or marketing region is named. Do not treat state boundaries as proof of a uniform flavor profile.
Evidence basis
The approval is supported by Arnold's general framework and Martini and Greene's Texas provenance case, including verified excerpts addressing environment, crop character, identity-preserved grain, nonuniform regional boundaries, and the stages before and after distillation.
