Reconstructing an evolving blend requires amounts removed as well as amounts added.
Full supplied-source review completed. Original synthesis with attributed evidence and explicit assumptions; private teaching use staged.
An additions-only list describes purchases or contributions, not current composition. In a well-mixed 600 mL bottle containing 300 mL each of A and B, removing 100 mL removes about 50 mL of each. Adding 100 mL C leaves 250 mL A, 250 mL B, and 100 mL C. These are model quantities assuming complete mixing, negligible evaporation, and additive volumes.
Record the date, before-volume, withdrawal, addition identity, added volume and stated proof, and resulting volume. Tasting notes should identify the particular state of the bottle. An earlier favorable tasting does not characterize all later states.
Evidence boundary: Goldfarb describes the changing bottle and its personal meaning. The accounting requirement and worked example here are Academy synthesis, not a formula attributed to him.
