Seventy-three consumers evaluated wines in a sequence involving blind tasting, discussion and informed evaluation. Negative expectations about low-alcohol wines did not translate into a uniform significant overall decrease in every observed outcome; support for the proposed cue effects was qualified.

Findings And Method
Seventy-three consumers evaluated wines in a sequence involving blind tasting, discussion and informed evaluation. Negative expectations about low-alcohol wines did not translate into a uniform significant overall decrease in every observed outcome; support for the proposed cue effects was qualified.
Evidence Boundaries
Fixed task order and intervening group discussion complicate causal inference. Standard and reduced-alcohol wines were not simply the same base wine with one variable changed. Perceived quality/liking and purchase intention are not laboratory quality or actual purchases.
Blending Lab Application — Researcher Synthesis
Keep blind impressions intact and save later informed impressions as a distinct observation. An educational before/after exercise can reveal personal context effects, but a formal causal study needs appropriate counterbalancing and controls.
The practical recommendation is distinct from the authors' tested result. Established chemistry and measurement definitions can be taught directly; a particular whiskey's response, a consumer segment or a profitable offer still requires appropriate evidence.
