Understanding Straight Bourbon Whiskey
At least 51% corn; distillation at no more than 160 proof; new charred oak entered at no more than 125 proof; at least two years of aging. Bourbon must be distilled and aged in the United States. No coloring, flavoring or blending materials. Straight is an additional designation, not a claim of single-barrel production.

Under four years, an age statement is generally required. The youngest whiskey governs; a stated age may be understated but may not contradict the minimum for the designation. Age statements: § 5.74(a)–(b)
