Understanding Wheat Whiskey
This type requires at least 51% wheat in the fermented mash, distillation at no more than 160 proof, and storage in new charred oak at no more than 125 proof on entry. There is no minimum storage duration for this non-straight type. Permitted additions are subject to the federal rules; the straight version has tighter restrictions. Wheat whiskey is distinct from wheated bourbon: wheat is the majority grain here, whereas bourbon has a corn majority.
