No access / Whiskey Literature Notes Database (USWA)
Complete supplied-source reading: all 36 PDF pages and images. Publication metadata, recipe correctness and practical safety remain qualified. All 32 saved bodies, 198 expected relationships and two existing Zettel applications are verified. Presentation checks remain. This is not a validated recipe manual.
Source and reading scope
No access; title-page author Lev Well. Well, Lev. 100 Gin Based Cocktails. Undated supplied digital copy; publisher and edition not stated.
PDF1–2 cover/title; PDF3–5 recipe contents; PDF6–36 all recipe bodies. No skipped history-tag filter. The 100 headings were reconciled against the contents and full bodies; one duplicate pair and two distinct similarly named Singapore Slings were identified.
Core synthesis
The book adds breadth of cocktail names, not reliable evidence of origins or successful blending. Its strongest library use is comparison: gin, whiskey and other components occur in very different matrices, and name similarity can conceal either identical or materially different formulas. A recipe can also be internally inconsistent while still being completely readable. These are researcher conclusions from full review, not claims that the author ran comparative trials.
Evidence and cautions
1. An undated compilation with limited provenance
The supplied copy identifies the title and Lev Well, then lists 100 recipe headings before the recipe section. It supplies no publication imprint, edition, ISBN, biography, bibliography or recipe-creator attributions.
Do not infer publication date from the PDF conversion timestamp or credentials from title-page credit. This absence is a metadata limitation, not evidence that readable supplied pages are missing.

2. Whiskey is a component, not always bourbon
Sixteen recipe headings include whiskey or whisky as an ingredient. Five explicitly include bourbon: Bourbon Sloe Gin Fizz, Liquid Angel Dust, Long Walk off a Short Pier, Mean Machine and Texas Tea. Other formulas specify Irish or blended whiskey, or leave the type generic.
A whiskey-sour glass is not a whiskey ingredient. Preserve unspecified whiskey as unspecified; none of these recipes constitutes a validated neat-bourbon blending trial.

3. Early recipes and method inconsistencies
The opening recipes combine gin with vermouth, liqueurs, juices, mixers and other spirits, using shaken, stirred and built methods. Christmas Tree Water lists three parts Sprite but instructs two and adds claims about bruising the ingredients.
The discrepancy is visible in the supplied text, not an extraction repair. Its dry-ice direction is quarantined and will not be transferred into consumer instructions.

4. A large multigin mixture lacks a trial design
Donald Cox combines several named gin types and flavored gins in a large container, using liters for dominant components and ounces for smaller additions.
No serving yield, bottle proofs, control sample, sensory target, repeat test or dilution specification is given. Multiple gins in a recipe do not establish a successful consumer blending method.

5. Modifiers and no-ice service are recipe-specific
English Coffee separates an initial triple-sec portion from a later finishing addition. Gin and It is explicitly prepared without ice. Other recipes use tonic, vermouth, soda and flavored gin in distinct serving contexts.
Do not merge English Coffee's two staged measures as an accidental repeated line. These are individual specifications, not universal rules for stirring, temperature or dilution.

6. Ingredient lists do not capture the whole method
Gin Alexander adds rim treatment and nutmeg in its method; Gin Buck adds ginger ale only in its method. Gin Blossam combines a fixed soda quantity with an unspecified glass-fill instruction. Gin Daisy lists gin but says wine in its method.
Any usable adaptation must reconcile the ingredient list, garnishes, glass size and method openly. Do not silently convert the source's wine to gin or assume a known final volume.

7. Two titles reproduce the same formula
Gin Cassis Fizz on PDF14–15 and Gin-Cassis Fizz on PDF22 give the same component measures and sequence, apart from cosmetic presentation and spelling.
The 100 headings are not 100 demonstrated unique cocktails; there are at most 99 distinct formulas on this duplicate test. Retain both locators with a duplicate cross-reference rather than deleting the source.

8. Fizz, fix, sour and service families need exact versions
The middle section contains cobblers, coolers, cups, fixes, fizzes, highballs, milk punch, rickey, sangaree, sling, smash, sour, swizzle and toddy variants. Some include staged additions, ice changes or heating; Hanky Panky is presented with a shaken highball service.
Family labels are retrieval aids, not proof that this is a canonical historical specification. Recipe-specific instructions must not be turned into general definitions without corroboration.

9. Mixed-spirit drinks differ from neat-whiskey blends
Highlander, Golden Panther, Irish Shillelagh, Jamaican Beer, Joy Juice, Liquid Angel Dust, Long Island Cocktail, Long Walk off a Short Pier and Mean Machine mix whiskey with gin and other components. Mean Machine uses bourbon, gin, blackberry brandy and lemonade.
Ingredients and matrix differ substantially from straight whiskey. Large or unspecified portions, brand strengths and ice-derived water remain unresolved; no measured preference result or repeat validation is offered.

10. Names do not authenticate origin or identity
Mint Gin Cocktail uses flavored gin with white port and vermouth. Orchard Downs permits cider or juice and makes grenadine optional in the method. The two Pink Gin recipes differ materially: one uses cranberry juice; the other uses a bitters rinse.
Cider and juice, or the two Pink Gin versions, are not interchangeable records. Titles such as Original Singapore Sling require evidence beyond the name before making an origin claim.

11. Large quantities need declared batch yield
Scarlet Fever's listed ranges total 36–42 fluid ounces before ice, while its method describes a draft glass without a serving count. Texas Tea explicitly uses a pitcher but leaves final cola amount and servings unspecified. The Davy Wright is a liter-based punch; Dukes of Hazzard Tonic totals 9.5 ounces of listed spirits and liqueur.
Those totals are arithmetic from source quantities, not recommended pours. Store batch volume and serving count separately; do not calculate a trustworthy final ABV without bottle strengths and final dilution.

12. Late sloe-gin recipes retain unresolved specifications
The later set includes sloe-gin Collins, Fizz, Flip, Rickey and tonic forms. Sloe Gin Fizz lists both gin and sloe gin but mentions only gin explicitly in the shaking instruction; the Flip uses a whole egg and cream. Smeraldo leaves fruit-juice identity generic.
Do not claim the Fizz's omission is resolved, or treat generic fruit juice as one reproducible ingredient. Egg, dairy and storage practices were not validated through this compilation.

13. Two original Singapore Slings are different recipes
Original Singapore Sling on PDF29 combines gin, cherry brandy and lime with very small Benedictine and brandy additions. The Original Singapore Sling on PDF36 gives equal gin, Benedictine and cherry brandy portions with soda and a stirred method.
These are distinct formulas under similar names, unlike the duplicated Cassis Fizz. The word original is a source label, not verified historical priority.

14. Strength, brand and measurement metadata are missing
Throughout the collection, measures include ounces, centiliters, liters, parts, shots, teaspoons, dashes, drops and unmeasured top-ups. Brand names and generic ingredient classes appear without consistent bottle-proof or version information.
The source does not supply a standardized measurement system, controlled tasting evidence or contemporary product verification. Separate source transcription from a tested, versioned adaptation; no direct migration into blend instructions.

Use within the knowledge model
Reuse existing recipe-provenance and measurement/batch-accounting Zettels. Treat the compilation as an example requiring verification, not authority overriding better-documented manuals. For any future adaptation, preserve original and revised specifications separately, resolve inconsistencies openly, declare quantities and serving yield, and record observed testing. None of these steps has been performed experimentally here.
Limits and open questions
No publisher, publication year, ISBN, edition, contributor biography or recipe origins are established. No blind tasting, sensory target fit, panel, control or repeat session is reported. Product proofs and current product identities are not verified. Dry-ice, raw-egg, dairy and other safety-sensitive practices are not operationalized. Claims of originality and canonical status remain unverified. There is no current public History, recipe or blend update.
